Sequencers
First, then, after that, finally. These are examples of sequencers. We use these word to help give instructions. Watch this Youtube to learn about sequencers.
I can use sequencers to describe how to wash the dishes.
Imperative Verbs
Read "How to wash the dishes" again. What verb tense do I use to describe how to wash the dishes?
Simple Present - I scrub the dishes with a dishcloth. - NO Present continuous - I am scrubbing the dishes with a dishcloth - NO Simple Past - I scrubbed the dishes with a dishcloth. - NO
I use IMPERATIVE verb form. The verb starts the sentence and there is no subject (I).
Scrub the dishes. Rinse the dishes. <--- 2 Imperative verbs

One of the chores I dislike the most is cleaning the kitchen. On Saturdays, I usually do athoroughjob of cleaning the entire kitchen. First of all, I clean all of the dishes, put them in the dish drainer to air dry, and thenscrubout the kitchen sink. (Because our dishwasher is broken, I have to do everything by hand.) After they are dry, I put the dishes away in thecupboard. Next, I clean off the stove top,wipe downthe counter tops, and clean the walls. I alsoorganizethe cupboards to make sure we arestocked upon food. Once that is done, I put the kitchen chairs on the table, wipe down the legs, and thensweepthe floor with a broom and a dustpan. After that, Imopthe entire floor.

Situation: You are a parent, you need to teach your child how to clean a room in the house. You will need to describe how to clean one of these 4 rooms: living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom.
How will we do the speaking assessment: You will WhatsApp video call me. I will tell you which room you will talk about. You will be the parent and I will be the child. You will tell me how to clean that room.
Tips on how to study for the Speaking Assessment
1. Study Cleaning Supplies Vocabulary.
Review all cleaning supplies vocabulary. Watch and listen to the YouTube video. Repeat out loud the words to practice pronunciation.
Practice speaking in complete sentences.
Example:
Use the vacuum cleaner to vacuum the carpet. or Vacuum the carpet with the vacuum cleaner.
Use the dish towel to dry the dishes. or Dry the dishes with the dish towel.
2. Study Housework Vocabulary
Watch and listen to the YouTube Video. Repeat out loud the words to practice pronunciation.
Pause the video and talk about each room. Use imperatives and sequencers to talk about how to clean the room. Be sure to use cleaning supplies.
Example:
I need you to clean the kitchen. First, scrub the sink with the cleanser. Then, Use the squeegee to wash the windows. After that, sweep the floor with a broom. Finally, wash the floor with a mop.
3. Practice talking about all the rooms in a house
I will choose one room for you to talk about. Be ready to speak about the kitchen, the bathroom, the living room and the bedroom.
4. Read the criteria for your level.
CLB 3 and CLB 4 speakers must be able to do different things. Read the criteria for your level. If you don't know your level, text me and I will tell you.
Criteria: To pass this assessment there are 4 things you must be able to do. 1. You can give instructions. CLB 3 - You must give 3 instructions on how to clean a room. CLB 4 - You must give at least 5 instruction on how to clean a room.
2. You can use good grammar CLB 3 - You must use sequencers and imperative verbs often. CLB 4 - You must use sequencers and imperative verb most of the time.
3. You can use new vocabulary about House Cleaning CLB 3 - You can some new vocabulary including cleaning supplies and cleaning verbs. CLB 4 - You can use a lot of new vocabulary including cleaning supplies and cleaning verbs.
4. You can speak in full sentences. (Fluency) CLB 3 - You can use complete short sentences CLB 4 - You can use complete longer sentences with some complex sentences.

You cleaned the house all morning but you are not finished. You need to leave the house to run some errands. Your teenager is still sleeping. Write a note to her to ask her to do some chores when she wakes up. Use the note above to help you. Tell her what you did and what you want her to do. Use your vocabulary words to help you. I want you to use as many cleaning vocabulary as you can! Do not copy, write your own note!
